Bokas tittel viser til den tyske sjakkentusiasten Arnfried Pagel som i 1981 mer eller mindre tilbrakte tre dager sammen med Bobby Fischer i Pasadena, for prisen av 20.000 dollar.
Boka har mange artige tekster, mange bilder og noen lærerike kapitler om sjakkåpninger, blant annet Benko-gambit som også har vært noe av en Alburt-spesial. Alburts medforfatter er kjent som direktør for "World Chess Hall of Fame" og har vunnet prisen som årets sjakkjournalist.
